Investors looking to capitalize on the energy transition fully should consider pairing traditional fossil fuel funds with renewable energy ETFs.
Investors may be able to diversify their portfolios and maximize potential upside by allocating to investments in fossil fuels, such as crude oil and natural gas, as well as investments in renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, and fuel cells.
This could look like pairing the Fidelity MSCI Energy Index ETF (FENY) with the Fidelity Clean Energy ETF (FRNW). The blended strategy — an equal split between FENY and FRNW — may offer a unique way to play both sides of the energy transition.
The energy transition from traditional fossil fuel sources to renewable clean energy sources will rely heavily on existing infrastructure. Furthermore, traditional energy and infrastructure will continue to play a significant role in the energy transition in the coming decades. Therefore, investors can gain exposure to all facets of the transition by pairing FENY and FRNW.
